Mallorca´s gastronomy is known for its rich variety, this is the result of past cultures and traditions of the different societies who have inhabited the island throughout history. The typical dishes of the island combine from staple foods such as vegetables, grown in the most fertile areas of Mallorca; all kinds seafood offered by the Mediterranean Sea; meats with special predilection for pork ( animal which was formerly essential because it provided Mallorcan families with food for the whole year and from which the star product “sobrassada” is made). Ingredients of great tradition in Mallorca´s gastronomy are; olive oil, almonds and wine.
