April 2017. Hotel Cala Sant Vicenç, www.hotelcala.com, the luxury boutique hotel near Pollensa on Mallorca’s north west coast, reopened for the 2017 season with the ground floor completely redesigned and refurnished. The new contemporary look is luxurious, combining the best of local tradition and culture.
The ground floor has now been opened up into one large area with glass frontage that draws the eye to the pool terrace and gardens. Splashes of pattern and colour enliven the contemporary poured concrete floor. Lively arrangements of traditional Mallorquin tiles create the effect of rugs scattered amongst the relaxed modern furniture.
The previous traditional dining room has been replaced by Lavanda, a bistro style Mediterranean restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner adjacent to the bar, looking onto the pool and gardens. Those who wish to dine al fresco can be protected by an awning and sunshades and there are more tables in the bar area for those who wish to graze or eat informally.
The bar and restaurant are also open to non-residents and the menu will offer Mediterranean fare alongside Mallorquin specialties, prepared using the freshest seasonal produce. In the evening, the terrace is a popular place for cocktails before dinner.
Acknowledging today’s lifestyle trends, there is powerful fast Wi-Fi throughout the ground floor and terrace and a communal table beyond the bar with power points for lap-top users. There are more power points in the ‘Lizard lounge’ chill-out area by the pool.
“Today’s guests don’t want formality. They are looking for comfort, tranquility and service along with a sense of place. Their line between work and relaxation is blurred – they are generally always ‘on’, even when relaxing,” said Adrian Constant, Chairman of Voyager Hotels. “We call our style ‘hotel living’ – an extension to guests own lifestyle rather than requiring them to adapt their behaviour to fit in with what the hotel offers.”
